On the third month anniversary (January 21, 2025) of my big sister’s death, I am almost done with my latest zine: The Analog Life & Death of My Big Sister — an homage to my sister, her love of writing things down, and the archival materials she left behind. Scribbled phone numbers, worn address books, scratched notes on envelopes — all reminders of a life lived offline–not by trend or nostalgia, but because it was her modus operandi. Born in 1960, pen and paper weren’t a throwback — they were how she moved through the world, how she stayed connected and maintained communication–with herself and the people she loved.
Additionally, this zine is a paean to the analog life, to pen and paper, and to connection in its most enduring form. It’s also an invitation to reflect on your own practices—analog and digital—are you living life the way you want or have you succumbed to the mad rush to build the Digital World? Do you long for things to slow down?
